To complete this how-to, you will need: 1 onion Butter or oil 5 potatoes Liquid ingredient (water or stock) Herbs Milk or light cream Salt and pepper Large pot Spoon Stove Bowls Immersion blender (optional) Step 1: Saute onion Saute a chopped onion in butter or oil in a large pot over medium heat, until the onion is soft. Step 2: Add potatoes Add five peeled and diced potatoes to the pot, then add enough boiling water or stock to cover the potatoes, and toss in a teaspoon of thyme or a bay leaf. Dice potatoes into small pieces to make a chunky-style potato soup. Step 3: Bring to boil Bring the potato soup to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 20 minutes, or until the potatoes are soft enough to break apart.
